a) Formula for calculating the value of the frequency(f) of the radiation is,

                      f = c / ..................(1)

Here c = speed of light = 3.0 x 108 m/s

          = 4.4 x 104 RE

Ordinarily, electromagnetic radiations do not penetrate very far into conductors such as seawater. Take the Earth's radius to be 6370 km.

= (4.4 x 104)(6370 x 103)

so , f= (3 x 108)/ [(3.5x 104)(6370 x 103)] = 1.070 x 10-3 Hz

b) Now time period is, T = 1 / f

T = 934.27 s
