(1) When the magnet is turned in such way that the magnetic lines of the eath magent is being cancelled by the opposite nature of the magnetic lines of the given magnet the effect of the earth magnetic magnetic field is cancelled.

(2) When magnetic is freely suspended then the magnet will aling itself in the direction of North and south that is the North of the magnet is in the geographic north and south of the bar magnet is in the geographic south.

but if it not freely suspende then the magnetic lines of bar magnet will cancel the effect of earth magnetic field lines at two points and at that point the net field is zero.
