This question has 5 parts to it and I'm really confused. Alongside the answer could you please put in an explanation. Thanks!

Question 5 The fixed container in (Figure 1) is filled with a liquid and fitted with a piston at the bottom. Figure 1 of 1 Part A Give the direction (if any) of the force FS exerted by the liquid on the wall at location A. The force is directed to the left. The force is directed downward The force is directed to the right. The force is directed upward. The force has no direction. Submit My Answers Give U Part B Give the direction (if any) of the pressure P in the liquid at A. The pressure is directed to the left. The pressure is directed to the right o The pressure has no direction. The pressure is directed upward The pressure is directed downward.

Explanation / Answer

Part A: The force is directed towards the right.

Part B: The pressure has no direction. (Pressure is a scalar quantity)

Part C: The force is directed upwards. (The force of liquid on the wall at point B will be downwards but in the question it is asking the direction of force on the liquid due to wall)

Part D: The force is directed downward.

Part E: The force is directed downward. (The force of the liquid on the piston will remain downward irrespective of the direction of motion of the piston)

Part F: All answers would stay the same. (The direction of the forces and pressure will not change by changing the type of fluid)
