Question
For each of the three diagrams on the next page answer the following: Each questions must be answered in a few sentences in space on this page
1. What type of overall depostional pattern is represented by in each diagram?
2. What is the interplay of subsidence, sediment supply, and sea level that produced each pattern?
3. The numbered intervals represent “parasequences.” What do the parasequences show in these diagrams?
COASTAL-PLAIN SANDSTONE&MUDSTONES; SANDSTONES SHALLOW MARINE SHELF MUDSTONE BASINWARDExplanation / Answer
1.
The figures shows, the geological depositions of sediments along the coast of sea. In the figure mud is the fine grained sediments than all the sediments in the section. Shallow marine sandstones course grained sediments and sandstone & mudstones combined and then deposited. In those figures four layers of deposition has been observed.
In “figure A” shows, the deposition of sandstones & mudstones is at first, then sandstone, and then mudstone. Due to costal erosion causing to the waves, tides, and currents, the mudstone sediments re-deposited over sandstone and sandstone & mudstones sediments.

Due to costal erosion causing to the waves, tides, and currents, the mudstone sediments re-deposited over sandstone sediments. The deposition of sediments of sandstones & mudstone are started to deposit over second layer on sandstone sediments.
2.
On the Earth’s crust, sedimentary basins are dominated by subsidence and net sedimentation rate such as such as sandstones, mudstones, and limestones accumulates. At continental shelf area, the substances occur usually and filled by different types of sediments. At some times these basins are the reservoirs for oil accumulations.
3.
The Para sequences in the above figure shows depositions of the sediments. The sediments are deposited due to the costal erosion of the mudstone sediments filed the subsidence part of the basin.
