Question
EXERCISE 7.2 I FRICTION 1. A force of 250 N is just sufficient to start a 50 kg steel trunk moving across a wooden floor. Find the coefficient of static friction. 2. A 20 kg wagon is pulled along the level ground by a rope inclined at 3 above horizontal. A frictional force of 30 N opposes the motion, how large is the pulling force if the wagon is moving at constant velocity? u 3. Compute the acceleration of the a block sliding down a 30e inclined plane if the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.20.
Explanation / Answer
THe minimum amount of force required to just pull the object = friction force acting on it
F = f = uN
Where
u is coefficient of static friction
N is normal force of the surface = mg
Hence F = umg
250 = u50*9.8
u = 0.51
