4) You were on the team that developed and launched Moldavia’s first satellite (a low earth orbit, spy satellite).   After a few months of perfect performance and great, high resolution of the imperialistic Transylvania despots cavorting around to our west, the satellite failed. Our friends in Russian brought the satellite back for us when they returned from the Glorious International Space Station. All of the polyethylene electrical insulation had disappeared!!! Was it sabotage? Or something else (yes, it was something else)? Explain what happened and how you could avoid this problem in future LEO satellites ?

May be Polyethylene is attacked by UV rays.So the electrical insulation had disappeared.

Polyethylene can be cross linked to make it highly resistant.If it is cross linked to produce Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene (CSPE) ,it will become resistant to UV rays, there by increasing its life span.
