Question
Help please.
Two plane mirrors are facing each other 2.2 m apart as in the figure. You stand 1.5 m away from one of these mirrors and look into it. You will see multiple images of yourself. How far away from you are the first three images of yourself in the mirror in front of you? Express your answer using two significant figures. Enter your answers in ascending order separated by commas. Is the first image facing toward you or away from you? Is the second image facing toward you or away from you? Is the third image facing toward you or away from you?Explanation / Answer
1 st image will made by mirror infront considering you as object.
D1 = image distance + object distance = 1.5 + 1.5 =3 m
facing toward you.
for second image
image made by back mirror will be used as object.
object distance from front mirror = (2.2 - 1.5) + 2.2 = 2.9 from frond mirror.
distance form you D2 = 2.9 + 1.5 = 4.4 m
facing away
for third image:
first image of you in front mirror will be used as object for back mirror.
so distance of image formed by front mirror from back mirror = 1.5 + 2.2 = 3.7 m
now this image formed by back mirror will be 3.7 m behind back mirror.
distane of this image from front mirror = 2.2 + 3.7 = 5.9 m
this image is used as object by front mirror.
hence image will be 5.9 m behind the front mirror.
so D3 = 5.9 + 1.5 = 7.4 m
towrads you
