Question
Set up the following circuits, one which has one battery, a switch, some wires and the light bulb and the second one which has two batteries (connected “back to back” as shown in the figure), a switch, some wires and the light bulb. This back to back combination is known as batteries in series in this circuit.
Close the switches so that the circuit is turned on. 1) How can you tell the circuit is working?
2) Which circuit, the one with one battery or the one with two batteries makes the light bulb glow brighter? (How can you tell the light bulb’s brightness?)
The online interactive simulation that you will need to use for your homework can be found at the following website, https://phet.colorado.edu/.
Explanation / Answer
1.) use galvanometer we can detect either current in circuit if flowing or not by this we can say is circuit is working or not
and by when the bulb will glow we get to know that current in the circuit is flowing.
2.) find the current in each circuit
I = V/R
circuit in which one battery is connected, so current in circuit
I = V/R
circuit in which two battery is connected, so current in circuit
I = 2V/R
now, power in circuit = I^R
in circuit in which two battery is connected the power is more hence bulb will glow more brighter as compare to in which one battery is connected.
