Question

A long cylindrical insulating shell has an inner radius of a = 1.45 m and an outer radius of b = 1.68 m. The shell has a constant charge density of 4.60 10^ ?9 C/m3. The picture shows an end-on cross-section of the cylindrical shell.

I have already solved the 2 parts below and they are correct values. I cannot figure out part c.

a) Magnitude of the electric field at a distance of r = 1.83 m from the axis --> 102 N/C

b) Magnitude of the electric field at a distance of r= 1.52 m from the axis? --> 35.5 N/C

c) If we take the potential at the axis to be zero, what is the electric potential at the outer radius of the shell???

Explanation / Answer

part (a) and (b) are already solved

part (c) It is given that there is no potential at the axis. the potential at the outer radius of the shell will be zero.
