Question

This is my physics homework, I tried to answer but i don't know if they are right, so please correct it if it's wrong.

Ouestions 1-3: Two waves are propagating along a straight lie as shown. Which of the following is the resultant when the center of the e 1. the twe waves are aligned? a) Me c) 2. Which of the fellowin g shows the waves just after the centers of the two waves are aligned? c) 3. This situation illustrates a) beats b) standing waves c)constructive interference d) destructive interference A sound source S is moving to the right as shown in the diagram above. At which labeled point on the diagram would an observer hear a frequency of sound tha t is greater than the actual frequency of the sound? 5. The figure below shows the standing wave created on a string. If the length of the string is Q0.6 m, what is the wavelength of the wave? a) 0.12 m )0.24 m 0.36 m 0.48 m O aum

Explanation / Answer

Ans.

a) The waves are moving towards each other. The interfere constructive as displacement of them is positive(so amplitude adds up)

The figure b is correctly chosen as the answer.

b) After interference waves will travel in the direction they were travelling before. So the figure B is correct.

c) The situation is constructive interfence as waves amplitudes adds up to give larger amplitude. Again it is answered correctly

d) This demonstrates Doppler's effect. Since source is moving towards C. So observer at C would hear frequency of sound greater than the actual frequency. This is also correctly answered.

e) There are 2.5 wavelenths on the string, so wavelength of the standing wave = 0.6/2.5 = 0.24m

This is also marked correct.
