Please answer all parts 3. -4 points SerPSET9 31.P.O03 My Notes Ask Your Teacher Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive technique used to stimulate regions of the human brain (see figure). In TMS, a small coil is placed on the scalp and a brief burst of current in the coil produces a rapidly changing magnetic field inside the brain. The induced emf can stimulate neuronal activity. Treatment Coill Cortex ed (a) One such device generates an upward magnetic field within the brain that rises from zero to 1.50 T in 105 ms. Determine the induced emf around a horizontal circle of tissue of radius 1.50 mm magnitude direction as seen from above (b) The field next changes to 0.500 T downward in 65.0 ms. How does the emf induced in this process compare with that in part (a)? magnitude direction as seen from above Need Help?Readit

Explanation / Answer

a) E = -dphi / dt = delta B A / delta t = B pi r2 / delta T

= (1.50 * pi * (1.5 * 10-3)2) / (105 * 10-3)

= 101 muV

direction is clockwise

b) delta B = 1.5 - (-0.5) = 2.00 T

E = B pi r2 / delta T

= (2.0 * pi * (1.5 * 10-3)2) / (65 * 10-3)

= 217 muV

direction is counter clockwise
