Question
The diagram shows the arrangement used to study forces between current-carrying wires. With no current in either coil, the electronic balance shows a value of 0.025 g. When a current of 0.658 A exists in each coil, the electronic balance shows a value 0.657 g. The current in the top coil across the top segment is from B to (a) What is the direction of the current across the bottom se in the balance coil (A to B or B to A)? Please write couple of statements to explain your answer carefully. (b) Calculate the B magnitude of the force exerted on the balance coil by the top coil. Is the force repulsive or antractive? Please explain (c) What is the reading on the balance if the current in top coil is reversed? (d) Calculate the product of currents I1/2 that would be L Balance Pan required to produce a force of one newton between the top coil and the balance coil. Please use g = 9.80 m/s, (e) What is the direction of the answer in one or two sentences. Top Coil Balance Coll your answer magnetic field at point C? Please explain your feld pona tride the page (b) fore is attache becavettis puling balance cin ng cn c) rt reading n tre baicnle 1.72 2. ,065 AExplanation / Answer
(a) Since the weight is reduced on the pan therefore the force must be attractive on the balance coil that means the
direction of the current must be same for balance coil as that of top coil in lower wire.
hence the direction of the current will be B to A.
(b) Force must be attractive and
F = mg = 0.657*10-3*9.81 = 6.445*10-3 N
(c) If the current is reversed then force will be repulsive which will increase the weight.
Hence the reading will be + 0.657 g
(d) Force on the wire is given by
F = (uo*L /2Pi*r)I1I2
I1I2 = (uo*L /2Pi*r) /F
Here F = 1N ,
