Question
The data in the graph to the right were collected in a seasonally dry, tropical forest that receives an average of 1500 mm of precipitation y?1, mostly in the wet season. The dotted curve represents the general trend reflected by the open circles (wet season data). Below this, the solid curve represents the general trend reflected by the closed circles (dry season data). Use this information and class information to respond to the following questions.
b.) If VPD was always 0.35 kPa in both wet and dry seasons, approximately how much water would this forest transpire across an entire year. How does this compare with how much precipitation the forest receives? If it is less, what are two reasonable fates of the excess? If it is more, where does the forest obtain the excess?
2.5 2.0 1.5 1.0 o Wet seaso . Dry season 2 0.5 0.00 0.25 0.50 0.75 100 VPD (kPa)Explanation / Answer
VPD means vapor pressure deficit . It is the difference between the amount of moisture in the air at the current time and how much moisture the air can hold when it is saturated
The range varies from 0.45 kPa to 1.25 kPa
So if vpd will be more than leaves will be broad and an optimum vpd is also necessary but as in this case the vpd is on the lower end it means that the leaves are sunken and there is not enough transpiration
