Question

Problem 3: A 480 resistor, an uncharged 1.6 F capacitor, and a battery with a 619 V potential difference are connected series Randomized Variables R= 480 C= 1.6 pF Part (a) What is the initial current in mA, immediately after they are connected? Numerie :A numeric value is expected and not an expression Part (b) What is the RC time constant in s? Numerie :A numeric value is expected and not an expression Part (e) What is the current, one time constant after they are connected, in milliamps? Numerie :A numeric value is expected and not an expression 2/

Explanation / Answer

(A) at t = 0 , Vc = 0

so I = e/R = 6.19 / 480

I = 0.0129 A Or 12.9 mA

(B) T = R C = (480) (1.6 x 10^-6)

T = 7.68 x 10^-4 sec

(C) I = (12.9 mA)[ e^(-t/T)]

at t = T

I = 12.9 / e = 4.75 mA

(D) e - Vc - VR = 0

6.19 - Vc - (4.75 x 10^-3 x 480) = 0

Vc = 3.91 Volt
