(c) What is the initial vertical velocity? What is the vertical acceleration? You can use the constant acceleration equations. (d) You don't know the vertical velocity at the beginning of the second half of the flight. Either find it or find the total descent (from start to finish) and then determine how much of it occurred during the second half of the flight. Explanation / Answer

(A) v0x = v0 = 117 km/h = 117 x 1000 m / 3600 s

v0x = v0 = 32.5 m/s

in horizontal, d =v0x t

t1 = (18.3/2)/32.5 = 0.28 sec

(B) t2 =(18.3 /2) / 32.5 = 0.28 sec

(C) y1 = v0y t + ay t^2 /2 = 0 + 9.8 x 0.28^2 /2

y1 = 0.38 m

(D) after 0.28 s, vy = v0y + ayt

vy = 0 + (0.28 x 9.8 ) = 2.74 m/s

y2 = (2.74 x 0.28) + (9.8 x 0.28^2 /2)

y2 = 1.15 m
