Info Relative Velocity Sidewalk Due in 2 hours, 40 minutes (c3p28) A passenger rushing to catch a plane at the airport walks on a moving sidewalk at a speed of 3.5 km/h relative to the sidewalk in the direction that the sidewalk is moving. The sidewalk is 85 m long and moves with a steady velocity of 1.6 km/h. How long (in s) does it take for the passenger to get from one end of the sidewalk to the other, that i to cover the 85 m? Submit Answer Tries 0/10 How much time does the passenger sae by taking the moving sidewalk instead of just walking beside it? Submit Answer Tries 0/10 Through what distance does the passenger walk relative to the moving sidewalk? Submit Answer Tries 0/10 If the passenger's stride is 80 cm, how many steps are taken in going from one end of the moving sidewalk to the other? Explanation / Answer

Apply kinematic equation

s= ut + 1/2 at^2

since moving with constant side velocity a= 0

s = ut

t = s/ u

= 85/ (1.6 + 3.5) * 1000/3600

= 30 s

(b)

the time save is

t' = 85 m/3.5 * 5/18 = 87.42 s

saved time is 87.42 s - 30 s = 57.42 s

(c)

s = u t' = 3.5 *5/18 * 87.42 = 84.99 m

(d)

number of steps

n = 84.99/0.8 m = 106 steps
