Question
5. 2 points SerCP11 2.P026. My Notes Ask Your Teacher A car traveling at a constant speed of 32.0 m/s passes a trooper hidden behind a billboard. One second after the speeding car passes the billboard, the trooper sets off in chase with a constant acceleration of 3.30 m/s2. How long does it take the trooper to overtake the speeding car? Solve this problem by a graphical method. On the same graph, plot position versus time for the car and the trooper x (m) 1200 1000 800 600 400 200 1200 1000 800 600 400 200 trooper car trooper t (s) t (s) 10 15 20 25 15 20 25 x (m) 800 600 500 600 trooper 300 200 100 400 car trooper 200 t (s) t (s) 10 15 20 25 10 15 20 From the intersection of the two curves, read the time at which the trooper overtakes the car. Solution:
Position verses time graph for the car will be a straight line and for trooper it will be curve as the acceleration is constant.
Now if we see only option D matches with the conditions given above because graph of the car should not be prallel to the x axis (as is shows no change in position).
And according to the graph the point of intersection is 21 s
So 21 second should be the answer.
