Explanation / Answer

Here ,

we need to find the potential at the point where the charge is to be put from infinity

potential due to a point charge = k * q/distance of point from charge

NOw, for the potential due to 5 nC

V1 = 9 *10^-9 * 5 *10^-9/4

V1 = 11.25 V

for the potential due to -2 nC

V2 = 9 *10^9 * (-2 *10^-9)/sqrt(4^2 + 3^2)

V2 = -3.6 V

net potential at the point = V1 + V2

net potential at the point = 11.25 - 3.6

net potential at the point = 7.65 V

Now , work done = potential * charge which is to be brought

work done = 7.65 * 1 *10^-9

work done = 7.65 *10^-9 J

work done = 7.65 nJ = 7.7 nJ

the work needed is 7.7 nJ

hope this helps
