Question

1. Look up an estimate for the electrical resistance of the human body.

2. Use Ohm's Law (V=IR) to find the current that would go through you if all 6kV went through you when the capacitor is at max capacitance. Currents of 100mA can be fatal to humans how close (quantitatively) are you to dying if you dont follow safety procedures?

3. When charging the plates and for the entire time the plates are charged, where should one of your hands be located? Why?

4. What is the stray capacitance(capacitance not due to the parallel plates) in the system due to?

Explanation / Answer

Resistance of human body varies person to person and on the body condition. when completley dry it is as high as 100 k ohms and under wet conditions it can be as low as 1000 ohm

The average resitance of humand body is 30K ohms

2) when the supplu voltage is 6 KV

current I = V/R = 6KV/30K = 200 mA., It is very fatal

3. The hands shall be away from the plates, particularly the +ve plate shall not be touched.
