Question
Just In Time #4 With her newly charged capacitor, and rail-gun set up, Prof. Grail is ready to test fire her weapon before using it to threaten a nearby population center (as you do, when you're a supervillain). She has a bit of an issue though (see graphic for the circuit diagram). When the switch is closed, current will flow clockwise around the loop. Which direction will the projectile move (and why)? If there is an electromotive force created by this motion, is it clockwise or counterclockwise (and why)? Projectile, 1.5 kg stee cube, free to move left or right. Big capacitor Conducting rail Conducting railExplanation / Answer
Above problem is based in electromotive force,
When switch of the circuit will on, the direction of projectile will be towards capacitor in order to reduce flux linkage through the circuit by decreasing it's area.
According to lenz law there will be an induced electromotive force which will in anticlockwise direction in order to oppose the cause as current flowing is in clockwise direction.
Thankyou
