Question
PHY 182 HW1 due to Jan 30 Problem 1 You have an aquarium which holds 5.05 gallons of water and you would like to place it on an stand. Before placing the aquarium on the stand, as a precaution, you decide to determine the weight of the water in the aquarium. Determine the weight of water you will be placing in the aquarium. Problem 2. It is known that a cubical object made of cast aluminum 0.200 m on a side contains a hollow cavity also in the shape of a cube but of unknown dimensions. If the mass of the object is 20.7 kg, determine the length of each side of the interior cubical cavity, The density of aluminum is 2.70 x 10 kg/mExplanation / Answer
1) 5.05 gallons = 19.12 litre = 19.12×10-3 m³
Density of water = 1000 kg/m³
So mass of 5.05 gallon water = 19.12×10-3 × 1000 = 19.12 kg
So weight of this much water = 19.12 × 9.8 = 187.376 N
