Essay answers are limited to about 500 words (3800 characters maximum, including spaces). 3800 Characters) remaning Submit Part B How many electrons have been removed or protons added? Express your answer using two significant figures N- 1.9 1010 Ans Correct Here we leam how to find the number of electrons an object acquired, given the total charge the object gained and using the charge of a single electron

Explanation / Answer

Part A -

When the glass rod is rubbed with some material like silk cloth, there is an increase in temperature in the rubbed areafor glass and silk. There may be some loosely bounded electrons present in glass which becomes free after rubbing due to increase in thermal energy of electrons. These free electrons thus transfer from glass rod to the silk material. In this way the glass rod attains positive charge. Further by following the principle that charge can never be created nor be destroyed, lossing of electrons means gaining of equal quantity of protons. So, in other words, we can say that the glass rod gains the protons by rubbing it with silk cloth.
