Question
The curvature radius of a plano-convex lens (see figure) is |R|. Tell if this lens, having any index n, is convergent or divergent. (Show algebraic calculation paying great attention to the signs) Ans: _____________ Light with lambda = 500 nm enters a glass with index n. The wavelength inside the glass could be: 500 nm 490 nm 510 nm In a diffraction grating the number of spots that can be obtained is. Unlimited limited An eagle has a bigger "resolving power" than humans because the eagle has a pupil with (smaller/bigger) ________ diameter than humans. A telescope has an objective focal length of 3.0 meters and its eyepiece has f = 15 mm. What is the magnification of the telescope? 0.2 20 200 5Explanation / Answer
For question no 5:
Form the Formula: 1/f = (n-1){1/R1 -1/R2} = (n-1){ 1/infinity - (-1/R)} As radius for flat surface is infinity
1/f = (n-1){0 + 1/R) So, f comes out to be positive, so this lens will behave like convex ie convergent.
For question no 6, when light enters the glass its wavelength will be original wavelength/n. So inside glass wavelength should be less than 500 so it could be is 490.
