Question

PLEASE ANSWER COMPLETELY :) and show work so I can follow along! Thanks!! A machine tugs sideways on an elastic rope with a frequency of3.4 Hz. A graph of the transverse displacements of this rope wave at t 1.0 s as a function of position is shown below. +0.2 +0.1 x [m] 0.5 -0.1 -0.2 a) What is the velocity of waves on this rope? b) If the frequency of the machine on the rope is doubled to f- 6.8 Hz yet the tension in the rope remains the same, what is the new wavelength of waves on this What is the new velocity of waves on this rope?

Explanation / Answer

a) velocity = frequency ( wavelength) = 3.4 (0.4 m) = 1.36 m/s

b) velocity = sqroot ( T/ m/L)

The vleocity will contiune to remain the same.

wavelength =1.36/ 6.8= 0.2 m
