Question

what is the physics behind archimedes princple? for my lab experiment we determined the density of a metal object three different ways all based on archimedes principle. comparison of the three results will provide some insight into uncertainties, and a verification of the principle. we uses a metal object hanging from the spring scale to determine its weight on and out of water. first we meaures th metal object in the air and then when it was sumerged in the water. in 2 or more paragrhs what is the physics behind archimedes principle of this lab

Explanation / Answer

according to arcimedes principle , when an object is immersed in a fluid , it experinces a loss in weight.that loss in weight is equal to the buoyant force and is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced. this buoyant force on the object is because of the pressue exerted on the object by the fluid, the pressure is given by P= h d g

h= height , d= density

the pressure increases with height,. so the pressure on the bottom face (in upward direction) will be more than the pressure on the top face( in downward direction). so there will be a net force on the obejct in upward direction and that is called as Buoyant force and is equal to te weight of the liquid displaced.
