3 Part question. Need help on the last 2.
Pions are created in the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere when atomic nuclei are bombarded by cosmic rays. When at rest the pions have an average lifetime of 2.6×10-8s before disintegrating. If a pion is created with a speed of 0.920c, what distance will it travel on the average in the Earth's atmosphere, before disintegrating? Answer: 18.3 m
[HELP HERE] How much energy can be obtained from conversion of 6.00 gram of mass?
[HELP HERE] How much mass could this energy raise to a height of 105m?
Explanation / Answer
By using Eeinsteen mass energy calulation :
E = mc2
= 6x10^-3x(3x10^8)^2
=54x10^13 joule
As per law of conservation of energy:
54x10^13 = m x g x h
h = 54x10^13 / (9.8x 6x10^-3)
= 0.918 x 10^16 m
