Question
The contrast between wing a compound bow and using a regular bow is that the force required to pull the string is lower in the compound bow. The figure shows the force required to pull a regular bow vs a compound bow (straight line for the regular bow). (I) Find the effective force constant for the regular law (how much force per unit of length). (II) Find the work required to draw the bows a distance of 0.20 m. (One answer per bow). (III) Find the work required to draw the bows a distance of 0.40m. (One answer per bow).Explanation / Answer
As per the figure -
the slope of regular blow is = 175/0.4 = 437.5 N/m
and we know that force constant = F/x = 437.5 N/m (Magnitude of force constant)
Part B) - as we know that work done by force = area of F-x graph
So here work done by force = 1/2(0.1)(100) + 0.1 * 100 = 15 J ( for compound bow)
work done by force = 1/2(0.2)(100) = 10 J (for regular bow)
Part C)- same formula of part B) will use here also-
work done by force = 1/2(0.1)(100) + (0.2)(100) = 25 J ( for compound bow)
work done by force = 1/2(0.4)(175) = 35 J (for regular bow)
Thank you !!! Have fun
