Question

Are you results for the converging lens in complete agreement with this Fundamental Lens Equation? If not, to what do you attribute the discrepancies? When a virtual image is formed by a mirror, is it in front of the mirror or behind it? What about a real image? Is it possible to obtain a non-inverted image with a converging spherical lens? Explain. Are your results for the spherical mirror in complete agreement with the Fundamental Lens Equation? If not, to what do you attribute the discrepancies? Light rays travel from left to right through a lens. If a virtual image is formed, on which side of the lens is it? On which side would a real image be found?

Explanation / Answer

1) For that you have to compare the experimental measured value to the theoritical values you get using the formula, You will find they are not exactly the same, The reasons could be , There may have been error(Paralax) error while measuring the distance, As its very small.

2) By a mirror Virtual image is behind the mirror and real image is in front of the mirror

3) Yes possible to have a non inverted iamge using a converging lens , When object is kept between the lans and its Focus then the iamge formed is Virtual and non inverted.

4) Yiu can say lens equation can not be directly applied on mirrors, It has to be applied with some sign conventions. And same anser as 1

5) For a lens the virtual image is on the same side as the object is so in this case Virtual image will be to the left of the lens and the real image will be on the other side i.e. real image will be on the right side of the lens
