Question
(a) In a series circuit, the total resistance is always _____ than any resistor that circuit. (b) According to the voltage divider rule, for a series circuit containing 300 Ohm, 5 K Ohm, and 2 K Ohm resistors and a age source, the largest voltage drop is expected to be across which resistor? (c) Three resistors R_1, R_2 and R_3 are connected source. 2, in series with a 15 V the current is 3 Ohm, and 2 A of current is flowing through it, what is through R_2? (d) State Kirchhoff's voltage law. (e) The voltage regulation of generator A is 6% and that of generator B Which is 2%. Which is a better generator?Explanation / Answer
a)We know in a series circuit the toatal resistance is sum of all the resistances. Thus total resistances will always be larger than any resistor in he circuit.
b) We know voltage didvider rule is given as,
V1=R1*V/R_{total}since R_{total} and V remains same for all so V1 will only depend on value of resistor across which potential drop is to be calculated.
Thus greater the resistor greater will be voltage drop.
Thus the largest voltage drop is expected to be across 5kohm.
c)We know that in a series circuit current through each reisitor is same.
Thus current through R2 will also be 2A.
d)Kirchhoff's voltage law states that sum of all voltage drop in a loop s zero.
