An electron (charge -e, mass m) with speed v to the right enters a region with uniform magnetic field with magnitude B directed into the page as shown in the diagram. Which correctly describes the subsequent motion of the electron? A. a counterclockwise circle which it rounds in t -e B. a clockwise circle which it rounds in t C. a clockwise circle which it rounds in t D. a straight line to the right X X X X X X

Explanation / Answer

here,

magnetic force on charge travelling in magnatic field is given by expression :

Force, F = charge * velocity * Magnetic field * SinA

Where,
SinA is angle b/w magnetic field and velocity

From right hand rule :

thumb : direction of moving charge i.e velocity
fingre : direction of field
plam : will give direction of magnatic force

so magnetic force will in up direction (+y axis). so charge will try to move in clockwise circle.
(Since charge is negative that why -y axis)

Option B
