Question

(At least 100 words) Keep a record of all the water you consume in two days. Then find on the Internet the average quantity of water used to flush a toilet, to take a shower, and to do other activities that directly consume water. Then estimate the quantity of direct water used per day - by you. Did you include non-direct water consumption? Such as water used to boil pasta, water used to make coffee, and water used to grow grain, cattle, and vegetables. Research how much water is used for these non-direct uses. Include in your research the quantity of water used for landscaping (making our environment look pleasant) and for pleasure (for example, golf courses).

Once you are done - its time for reflection - think about what you would be willing to do to reduce the amount of water you use directly and the amount of water that is used indirectly in your name.

Explanation / Answer

For two days, almost an average of 300 litres of water is consumed by me in various activities ranging from drinking to taking bath.

Around 49 litres of water is used each day for shower. Brushing teeth takes another 6 litres on an average. Around 60 to 65 litres of water is utilized in laundry. But that is thrice a week. Around 5-6 litres of water is used for boiling noodles, eggs, coffee, etc. Starting for orally consuming to bathing, daily garment wash, cooking, cleaning house, etc an average of 145-150 litres of water is used on a daily basis.

But importantly understanding how much water we use will help us determine how much we can save. Sometimes we are unaware of the sheer volume of water in usage and wastage on daily basis. But keeping a track of water consumption daily can be an easier step to save.
