Explanation / Answer

Given that R1 = 200 ohm

R2 = 260 ohm

R3 = 340 ohm

Potential difference across R1 = emf of the battery = 18 V

Net resistance is Rnet = R1*(R2+R3)/(R1+R2+R3) = (200*(260+340))/(200+260+340) = 150 ohm

Net current in the circuit is Inet = V/Rnet = 18/150 = 0.12 A

current through R1 is I1 = V/R1 = 18/200 = 0.09 A

current through R2 = R3 is i2 = i3 = 0.12-0.09 = 0.03 A

potential difference across R2 is V2 = i2*R2 = 0.03*260 = 7.8 V

Potential difference across R3 i V3 = i3*R3 = 0.03*340 = 10.2 V

So answers are

Part A) V1 = 10 V , V2 = 7.8 V and V3 = 10.2 V

Part b) i1 = 0.09 A =90 mA

i2 = 0.03 A = 30 mA and i3 = 0.03 A = 30 mA
