Explanation / Answer

North Africa has a long history of interaction with the Europeans and has evolved accordingly, whereas Sub Saharan Africa had long been separated and secluded. According to an independent research, most of the people from north Africa has only 5% of genes derived from the African ancestry. Due to the mixture with the Europeans, North Africa has a mixed culture of Islam, Arabic origins, whereas the Sub-saharan Africa is marked by the native religions of Africa. Strong genetic differences prevail in between these two areas. There are many reasons for this difference in culture and heritage of these two regions. Sub-saharan Africa was colonized at the 19th and 20th century more brutally, whereas many North African state remained as strong centralized states. This independence of the North African states helped them to develop their own culture and economy independently. On the other hand,Sub-saharan Africa being separated from the modern developments, retained their ancient culture and heritage, that ultimately caused the linguistic difference between the regions. The second major cause of difference between these two regions is the presence of Sahara. These two regions are separated from each other since 3500 BCE by the harsh areas of Sahara.Due to the presence of the vast desert, people from these regions had a very limited degree of interaction. So, their linguistic developed independently.

So, the answer in the present case will be: the people of these two regions were separated by the expense of Sahara.
