Part D

How much heat would be liberated by the gas for the same temperature change if the volume were constant?

n =   mol

Explanation / Answer

(A)

let number of moles of nitrogen = n

we know that,

n = Q / Cp*dT

n = 2.1*10^4 / 29.07*(110-47)

n = 11.46 moles

(B)

change in internal energy of the gas is,

dU = Q*Cv / Cp

dU = -2.1*10^4*20.76 / 29.07

dU = -1.4*10^4 J

(C)

work done W = Q - dU

W = -2.1*10^4 + 1.4*10^4

W = 7*10^3 J

(D)

Q = W + dU

dV = 0

so, W = 0

hence Q = dU = -1.4*10^4 J
