Question
1. Write down and explain a) Gauss's Law and b) Coulomb's Law. c) Describe Doppler Effect. Complete with comments explaining each variable or constant in the mathematical expressions.
2. A tube, open at both ends, is cut into four shorter pieces of unequal length. The shorter pieces have fundamental frequencies of 225, 335, 445 and 555 Hz, respectively. What was the fundamental frequency of the original tube?
3. A train has whistle that produces a sound at 470 Hz. The train is moving with a constant speed of 30 m/s. A car, starting at rest in front of the train, moves towards the train with a constant acceleration. The car reaches a maximum speed of 60 m/s before it passes by the train. What is the range of Whistle frequencies heard by a passenger in the car? (Take the velocity of sound waves in air to be 340 m/s)
4. One charge of +35.0 uc is located at position (x1,y1) = (0,32.0 cm), and two charges of -35.0 uc are located at (x2,y2) = (-32.0 cm, 0) and (x3,y3) = (32.0 cm, 0). a) What is the electric field intensity at the origin of the coordinate system. b) What is the net force experienced by the positive charge. ( k= 8.99 x 109 Nm2/C2)
Explanation / Answer
a)Gauss law states that the surface integral of electric field intensityover any closed surface is 1/epsilon0 times the net charge enclosed within that surface.
int E.dA = phi = (1/epsilon0 ) x Q
Where, phi is the electric flux, epsilon0 is the permittivity if free space and Q is the net charge enclosed.
b)Coulomb's law states that the magnitude of the net electrostatic force acting between two charged particles is directly proportional to the product of the magnitudes of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of distance between them.
F = k q1q2/r^2
where, k is the constant of proportionality ; q1q2 are the magnitudes of charges and r is the distance between them.
c)Doppler effect of doppler shift is the change in frequency or the wavelength of priodic waves like light or sound for an observer moving related to the source.
the relation between the observed and apparent frequrncy is :
f = f0 (v + vr)/(v + Vs)
v is the velocity of the wabes in decium and vr is the velocity of the reciever and vs is the velocity of the source.
