A boat moves thru the water with two forces acting on it. One force is a 1,500-N forward push by the water on the propeller,and the other force is a 1,000-N resistive force due to the water around the bow.

Start by resolving the forces.
1500N - 1000N = 500N, so there is a 500N resultant force on the boat.

Using F = ma, rearrange to get a = F / m
a = 500 / 1100
=0.4545
= 0.455 ms^-2

b)
Using s = ut + 0.5at^2
s = 0 * 20 + 0.5 * 0.455* 20^2
= 90.91 m


c)
Using a = (v - u)/t, rearrange to get v = u + at
v = 0 + 0.455 * 20

= 9.1 ms^-1
