Question
Two objects with masses of 4.00 kg and 5.00 kg are connected by a light string that passes over a frictionless pulley as in the figure below. (a) Determine the tension in the string. N (b) Determine the acceleration of each object. m/s^2 (c) Determine the distance each object will move in the first second of motion if both objects start from rest. m Find the acceleration reached by each of the two objects shown in figure below if the coefficient of kinetic friction between the 7.00 kg object and the plane is 0.310.Explanation / Answer
a) Applying Laws of Newton motion equations -
5 * 9.8 - T = 5a
Also, T - 4 * 9.8 = 4a
Thus, a = 1.088 m/s2
Thus, tension in string , T = 4 * 1.088 + 4 * 9.8
= 43.552 N
b) acceleration , a = 1.088 m/s2
c) distance each object move = 1/2 * 1.088 * 1 * 1
= 0.544 m
