Question

In a young's double Slit experiment. if the separation between the two slits is 0.0100 mm and the distance from the slits to a screen is 1.25 m. find the spacing between the second-order end fifth order bright fringes for light with wavelength of 500. mm and 400 mm. light composed of only red (700.mm) (400. nm) components foils on the two slits and forms a central magenta appearing line on the screen. If the slits have the some separation as in how far from the central magenta line will the second off-center - center magnetic line__________appear

Explanation / Answer

given

d = 0.01 mm = 1*10^-5 m

R = 1.25 m

we know, distance between second order and fifh order bright fringe = (5-2)*lamda*R/d

= 3*lamda*R/d

a) lamda = 500 nm

delta_Y = 3*500*10^-9*1.25/(1*10^-5)

= 0.1875 m

b) lamda = 400 nm

delta_Y = 3*400*10^-9*1.25/(1*10^-5)

= 0.15 m

c) mean wavelength, lamda = (700 + 400)/2 = 550 nm

y2 = 2*lamda*R/d

= 2*550*10^-9*1.25/(1*10^-5)

= 0.1375 m
