Introgression is the repeated backcrossing of an interspecific hybrid with one of its parents. Backcrossing helps to segregate out the useful genes and eliminate the Lethal genes .Morover since the progeny is a inter specific hybrid therefore it has characteristics of both the species which can help in diversification .The elimination of the Lethal genes and the selection of the useful genes through the back cross helps in adaptation of the organism. Therefore variation introduced via introgression regularly contributes to adaptation and diversification throughout the tree of life.
