If gender plays an important role in responses to VD3 deficiency and supplement, why were male mice not considered or tested during the study to examine the impact of dietary VD3 deficiency on sinonasal airway inflammation using a previously characterized murine model [31,38-41] that employs a intranasal delivery of Aspergillus fumigatus (Af) to mimic the sinonasal airway inflammation observed in patients with CRSwNP. Additionally, will future studies include male mice or continue to focus on eight-week old female mice?

According to the information, the experiments were conducted only using female mice only and male mice were excluded. Despite the fact that gender plays a very critical role in disease investigation and aetiology, there are numerous evidences where a particular gender cannot be included in the investigations.
For example, when conducting research upon in vivo models of hypobaric hypoxia induced pulmonary edema formation using Sprague-Dawley rats, only male rats are utilized for experimentations and female rats are excluded. This is done due to the fact that female Sprague-Dawley rats are resistant to hypoxic stress and thus behave normally even under stimulated hypobaric hypoxia. This can be a similar case for in vivo model for VD3 deficiency adn supplement using only female mice.
Hence, most probably due to genetic resistant, male mice were not included in this study and the investigations were conducted using female mice only.
