Question
Graham, Maizie, mill calvin are playing with a toy circuit set They have the following components: Two 6 V batteries, three light bulbs each with resistance 8 Ohm, and a large amount a wire Calvin builds a circuit with one battery and one light bulb, as shown in figure A below In this setup, what is the power output of the light? Maizie adds the second battery and the other two light bulbs to the circuit, as shown in figure B below. For this new circuit, what is the power output of each of the three lights? Graham wants to connect the components in order to maximize the total light emitted. How can he arrange the circuit so as to get the maximum total power output from the light bulbs? Draw a circuit diagram to illustrate your answer, and compute the maximum total power that can lie obtained.Explanation / Answer
a) P=v^2/R=36/8=4.5 W
b) now the voltage drop per each bulb is 6×2/3=4 V
P=16/8 = 2 W
c) connect the batteries in series with each other and bulbs parallel to each other and the batteries.
Power per bulb is then 144/8=18 W
Then the total power out put is 18×3=54 w
