Question
(a )Calculate the power of the corrective lens required by a hyperopic (far sighted) eye whose near point is at 100.0 cm with the assumption that an object at 25.0 cm in front of the eye is to be seen clearly. (Assume the distance from the lens to the eye is negligible) ??
(b) Calculate the power of the corrective lens required by a myopic (near sighted) eye whose far point is at 100.0 cm with the assumption that an object at 25.0 cm in front of the eye is to be seen clearly (Assume that the distance from the lens to the eye is negligible) ?
Explanation / Answer
The strength of a lens D is 1/f where f is the focal length in metres.
Use the lens formula 1/f = D = 1/u + 1/v
For a normal eye u is 1 m. v i s 0.25 m in both cases.
D = 1 + 1/0.25 = 5 diopter for both cases
