a) Species richness will be the total number of species present in each stream.
EASTMAN WARERSHED WESTVALE WATERSHED
Stream 12 = 4 species Stream 23 = 3 species
Stream 14 = 4 species Stream 25 = 4 species
Stream 16 = 4 species Stream 27 = 2 species
b) Alpha diversity of EASTMAN WATERSHED
Total species in each stream (12, 14 and 16) = 12
Alpha diversity of WESTVALE WATERSHED
Total species in each stream (23, 25 and 27) = 9
As the alpha diversity is greater in EASTMAN WATERSHED, then we will protect this to maximize alpha diversity.
c) Gamma diversity in EASTMAN WATERSHED
Total species in entire ecosystem (make sure not to repeat any species) = 8
Gamma diversity in WESTVALE WATERSHED = 7
As the Gamma diversity is higher is EASTMAN WATERSHED, we will protec this to maximize our gamma diversity.
