Question
Electromagnetic Induction and Transformers: Please explain all these 3 part in detail.
1. Rotate the coil in the electric motor. Does the needle of the galvanometer move? Which direction? Spin left, the needle will deflect left. Spin right, the needle will deflect right. Please explain
2. Rotate the coil in the electric motor in the opposite direction. How does this affect the needle of the galvanometer? Please explain
3. Explain why the needle deflects when the coil in the electric motor rotates. Please explain
Explanation / Answer
1) Spin left, the needle will deflect left.
When coil is rotated, the needle of galvanometer deflects in one direction. When the coil is held stationary at that position, the needle of galvanometer returns back to zero position. Now when the coil is rotated in opposite direction, there is some deflection in the needle but in opposite direction .
2) The pointer of the galvanometer deflects in the opposite direction indicating production of current in the coil .
3) Electromagnetic induction is a process where a conductor placed in a changing magnetic field (or a conductor moving through a stationary magnetic field) causes the production of a voltage across the conductor. This process of electromagnetic induction, in turn, causes an electrical current - it is said to induce the current.
