Is it more or less stable than 4. What has greater species diversity, an ecosystem beginning primary succession or an ecosystem 5. Your yard you just mowed A meadow with grasses tt d. A rainforest What happens when organic matter in soil increases? Describe events of succession from pioneer species to a climax community. What two species that are considered pioneer species? What do they create? 6. 8.

Explanation / Answer

1) Ecological succession is a process in which the structure and composition of the biological community evolve over time. It can be of two types i.e primary succession and secondary succession

2) The first stage of succession was pioneering colonization of annual plant species. This succession stage is further followed by perennial plants and grasses, shrubs, softwood trees and then hardwood trees. About 50 to 75 years after initial colonization of pioneer species in the developing forest, the softwood trees were started to be replaced by hardwood trees.

The hardwood trees are shade tolerant plants whereas the red pines are sun-loving plants. The hardwood trees grow within the red pine planting area, the consequences of which increases the shading due to which the subsequent mortality(death rate) of red pine increases because they are sun-loving plants.

3) The climax community is the final stage of succession which remains stable for a longer period of time until it is destroyed by human interference or fire. The Climax community are less stable in terms of biodiversity than the previous community, it is because climax community is most stable which leads to the low species diversity since the time between disturbances(i.e something that interrupts someone) is long due to which one or few species are getting dominant which in turn exclude other species(due to competition)

6) Organic matter consists of a large number of carbon-based compounds. Organic matter plays an important role in conserving and improving the properties of soil. If the organic matter in the soil increases, it increases the productivity and in turn, the higher productivity further increases the organic matter
