It is not matter how much is the concentration of glucose in epithelial cells, epithelial cells lining the gut need to bring more and more glucose made available from digestion into the body and must prevent the reverse flow of glucose from body to gut. Thus, it is right to argue that the transport of glucose across the apical membrane of intestinal epithelial cells is ultimately powered by ATP hydrolysis.
