Question

A Russian weightlifter in the 2000 Olympic games is able to lift 250kg mass a vertical distance of 2m in 2 seconds. What is his power output?

- I did the math but ended up with 2450, which was not a multiple choice option but 2.45 W was. I searched it online and there was a Chegg solution that was also 2.45. How did we get the decimal in there?

Below is the copy and pasted math from Chegg. All my work was basically the same just don't know how or why the decimal showed up. I can see that P was put into a scientific notion, and assume this is somehow related to why it's 2.45 and not 2450. However I don't remember my professor ever noting we must put it in any specific format, however he provides no other options on the multiple choice. (Options were A. 500 B. 2.45 C .4.9 D. 9.8)

PowerP   =   Work done W / Time

=   Force* displacement / time   =   weight *h / t

         P   =   m* g * h / t   =   250 * 9.8 *2 / 2

         P   =   2.45*103   W   =   2.45kW

Explanation / Answer

Power is the time rate of doing work = work/unit time = newton*meter/sec = watt

Power = 250(9.8)(2)/2 (kgm^2/sec^3 = newton*meter/sec = watts)
= 2450 watts = 2.45kw
