Question

(hrw8c11p7) A constant horizontal force of 11.0 N is applied to a wheel of mass 9.0 kg and radius 0.25 m as shown in the figure. The wheel rolls without slipping on the horizontal surface, and the acceleration of its center of mass is 0.941 m/s2.
a)What is the magnitude of the frictional force on the wheel?

b)What is the rotational inertia of the wheel about an axis through its center of mass and perpendicular to the plane of the wheel? (if the picture have not appear,please check in other question in chegg,the same question is posted with different numbers)

Explanation / Answer

a)

Fnet = ma

F - fs = ma

:- fs = F - ma

fs = 11 N - 9 kg x 0.941 m/s^2 = 2.531 N

b)

net = I => fsR = Ia/R

I = fsR2 /a

I = (2.531 N x 0.25 m) / 0.941 m/s^2

I = 0.6724 k.gm2
