Question
2. There is a uniform magnetic field of magnitude B=1.60T and directed out of the plane of the paper in the region shown. Outside this region the magnetic field is zero. A rectangular loop 0.200m by 0.600m and of resistance 4 ohms is being pulled into the magnetic field at a speed of 2.5m/s by an external force, as shown.
a. Using Lenzs Law, find the direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) of the current induced in the loop. Explain your reasoning in full sentence(s).
b. What is the magnitude of the current induced in the loop?
Explanation / Answer
(a)force due to magnetic field should be opposite to applied force(external)
F=i(LxB)
current should be in clockwise
(b) EMF=BLV
EMF=(1.6)(0.2)(2.5) = 0.8V
induced current =EMF/R
=0.8/4
=0.2A
