can someone help me answer this question with the steps included thank you :)
Eskimos must hunt and kill for food in order to survive in the cold. Assume an Eskimo is pulling a sled that weight 57.6 lbs. Carrying meat weighing 70lbs. which he just killed for the long winter. The coefficient of static friction between the sled and the meat is 0.8 and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the sled and the snow and the snow is 0.1. Show that the max horizontal force that the Eskimo can apply to the sled without losing the meat is about 505 N. Calculate the acceleration of the sled when this max horizontal force is applied. (express your answer in (N) Newton's)Explanation / Answer
Here ,
weight of sled , w = 57.6 lbs
w = 57.6 * 0.453 Kg
w = 26.1 Kg
coefficient of static friction , us = 0.8
coefficinet of kinetic friction ,uk = 0.1
horizontal force , F = 505 N
let the maximum aceleration is a
using second law of motion
m * a = F - uk * w * g
26.1 * a = 505 - 0.10 * 26.1 * 9.8
solving for a
a = 18.4 m/s^2
the acceleration of the sled is 18.4 m/s^2
